Correct language signals for sites publishing in two languages: translated URLs, hreflang tags and the duplicate content trap.
When multilingual sites are set up incorrectly, Google hesitates between languages and both versions rank poorly.
URL structure
- Default language at the root (/hizmetler), others with a prefix (/en/services)
- Translate URL segments too, not only content
- Separate pages per language; no automatic redirects
hreflang
Give every page reciprocal hreflang tags to all language versions and mark the default with x-default. Repeat the same information in the sitemap. Missing or one-way tags are ignored by Google.
Content
Machine translation alone is not enough; do separate title, meta description and keyword research for each language. The English page is written for English search intent, not as a translation of Turkish queries.
